Abstract

Gastro esophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) as well as the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach. Many people of different age group including pregnant womens face the problems of heartburn or acid indigestion and hiatal hernia which are the major symptoms of GERD. Previously doctors preferred diet, lifestyle changes, medication or surgery for treatment of GERD but now a days preferring most advanced therapy that is RAFT. RAFT technology is an alginate/antacid combination used as primary treatments for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is the administration of alginate antacid anti-reflux preparations. It acts by forming a physical barrier in the form of a neutral floating gel or RAFT on the inner wall of stomach. Its main advantage over antacid is that provide longer lasting symptom relief and rapid onset of action.
